Representatives of Total E&P Bulgaria participated in the “Sustainable Maritime Development – Science and Technology Conference” as part of Total E&P Bulgaria’s efforts to engage with all relevant stakeholders in the country and to promote Total’s high technology standards and values. The Conference was organised by the N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy, which is the oldest technical school in Bulgaria. The aim of the conference was to enable information exchange and to outline the current research trends while considering the main issues of sustainable development in the domain of maritime technology.
The Operations Manager of Total E&P Bulgaria gave a presentation on the Technological Aspects & Challenges of Deep Offshore Drilling. He introduced the Khan Asparuh project as the first ultra-deepwater exploration in the Bulgarian Black Sea. The challenges to the project are mainly related to the low level of actual geological information for the area, the limited in-country offshore oil industry infrastructure and the very high operational costs.
In the presentation on Total’s approach for environmental protection in E&P activities, the HSE Manager of Total E&P Bulgaria confirmed Total’s commitment to protect the environment at every stage of each project. Total E&P Bulgaria makes strong efforts in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable development with a focus on reducing the environmental impact of the various operations during exploration while taking into account the specificities of the Black Sea basin.
