Total E&P Bulgaria Continues to Invest in Scientific-Research Activities in Bulgarian Universities

The company will fund 3 university projects

29 October 2018, Sofia. Total E&P Bulgaria B.V., together with its partners in Han Asparuh project OMV Offshore GmBH and Repsol Bulgaria B.V., will award grants to three universities to support, once again, their initiatives for training of Bulgarian specialists in the oil and gas industry, as well as other scientific research activities in the Black Sea. Sofia University, the University of Mining and Geology and the Naval Academy had the opportunity to participate in a Call for Proposals, announced earlier this year, and to apply for funding of their projects. Proposals were evaluated by Total E&P Bulgaria specialists. Ultimately, three projects have been selected and will be supported with more than 70,000 EUR in total.

The first awarded proposal was developed jointly by the Physics Faculty of Sofia University and the University of Mining and Geology and is focused on studying the geological layers of Kamchiya River firth. The project will support students in their education and will contribute to improve their practical skills.

The Naval Academy in Varna will also receive funding for setting up a remote sensing centre for oil spill monitoring and decision making. The project will contribute to the protection of the Black Sea coastal area.

The third awarded project is the renovation of a chemical laboratory at the Geology and Geography Faculty of Sofia University, which will provide better conditions for education and scientific-research.

“Youth education is one of the pillars of Total E&P Bulgaria’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. We are happy to once again be partnering with Bulgarian universities and supporting them in realising important projects that will help the students deepen their knowledge and develop their potential”, commented Kevin Hannaford, General Manager of Total E&P Bulgaria.

The company is a valuable partner of several academic institutions and has supported them not only by donating funds, equipment and specialised literature, but also by sharing knowledge and organising courses for the students in which Total’s specialists take part.

The company is currently renewing its framework cooperation agreements with two of its major partners – Sofia University and the University of Mining and Geology. These agreements will continue to serve as platforms for long-term and strategic cooperation in education, research and innovation in the domain of oil and gas exploration and production.
